James Hundon

Master Instructor Professor
Professor Hundon has over 45 years experience in the martial arts. He is the co-founder of Universal Martial Arts Academy and UMAA Defensive Tactics; and the creator of Small Circle Ju Trap Boxing. His titles include 7th Degree Black Belts in both Small Circle Jujitsu and Kyohuejitsumae; a second degree Black Belt in Sugar Ryu Jujitsu; black belts in Chinese Kenpo and Kodokan Jujitsu; Full Instructor in Jeet Kune Do Concepts and Filipino Martial Arts under Sigung Paul Vunak; the locking specialist and member of Jeet Kune Do Athletic Association, founded by Harinder Singh; a certified Master Defensive Tactics instructor with Force Options Tactical Training Solutions (listed with the International Martial Arts Council of America-Law Enforcement Division); a certified Defensive Tactics Edged Weapons instructor with Progressive Fighting Systems; a certified Baton Instructor with Personal Safety Training Incorporated and Force Options; and an Advanced Instructor in Serrada Escrima under Master Khalid Khan. Professor Hundon is currently working on his Master’s Certification in Serrada Escrima under Grandmaster Darren Tibon, founder of Angel’s Disciples. Professor Hundon has also studied Capoeira Angola extensively, as well as Shorinji Kenpo and boxing. Professor Hundon has been training law enforcement officers since the 1970′s. He has extensive experience in the security industry, both armed and unarmed.

Toriano Hardin

Toriano Hardin is a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options, a Full Instructor at Universal Martial Arts Academy, an Advanced Instructor in Serrada Eskrima under Master Khalid Khan. He is the designer of the UMAA Verbal Tactics Training Program, which teaches effective de-escalation strategies. He has over 15 years experience in the martial arts, with a black belt in Shaolin Kenpo. He has also trained in Doce Pares, Small Circle Jujitsu; Ju Trap Boxing; Eskrima Serrada; Pekiti Tirsia and Chen Tai Chi; and has competed in FMA weapons fighting tournaments. Values important to Toriano include self-discipline; balance; power; economy of movement; respect for all styles of martial arts; and relating classical fighting styles to more contemporary street fighting principles.


Beki Light

Beki Light is a Full Instructor under Professor James Hundon at Universal Martial Arts Academy; a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options; an Advanced Instructor in Serrada Eskrima under Master Khalid Khan; and a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Specialist in Exercise Therapy from the International Sports Sciences Association. In addition to teaching at UMAA, she has worked at UCSF and The Sports Club LA as a personal trainer specializing in boxing. Beki also works in the security industry. Beki views martial arts as a path for personal transformation and community empowerment that powerfully integrates body, mind and spirit. She especially enjoys helping people reach their goals and go beyond what they thought they were capable of.


Damon Naeem

Damon Naeem is a senior instructor under professor James Hundon at Universal Martial Arts Academy. Damon has 26 years of martial arts training and experience & Damon has been teaching adults & children since 1994. Damon concurrently holds a black belt in Wun Hop Kuen Do Kajukenbo and is a Contra Mestre ( apprentice master ) in capoeira Angola under Mestre Terry Baruti. Core values for Damon include student development & growth, reality based self protection & defense, cross training & cultivating a sharing environment with respect for self , others & the environment.

Greg Quinn

Thomas Gregory Quinn, MD is cardiologist with Sutter Health in Oakland, California. Although Dr. Quinn is an interventional cardiologist he believes the most effective intervention is disease prevention. This focus on prevention has fueled his professional and personal life. Optimal self defense empowered by a healthy respect for life is at the core of Professor James Hundon’s principles. It was this shared philosophy that prompted Dr. Quinn to join the Universal Martial Arts Academy and train under Professor Hundon for the past 10 years. Prior to that Dr. Quinn trained under Grand Master Wally Jay. Currently, he serves as an instructor at the Universal Martial Arts Academy.

Mike Campo

Michael Campo is a professional graphic designer and photographer who is also an instructor at Universal Martial Arts Academy. Michael has been training with Professor James Hundon with his art of Small Circle Ju Trap Boxing and Serrada Eskrima since 2009. He has earned his brown belt in Yoshokai Aikido and have been training in the martial arts for about 15 years. Martial Arts for him is not just about fighting and techniques. It is for self discovery – to know your limits, then elevate it to next level. Michael believes that values like discipline, focus, awareness, respect, love, and compassion are very important to have if you follow the true martial path. Martial Arts for him is a way of life! It is also quite fun.
