Professor James Hundon is the founder of
Universal Martial Arts Academy, UMAA
Defensive Tactics, Ju Trap Boxing
sm,  and
Dynamic Small Circle Jujitsu
sm. He is a veteran
of the martial arts with experience since 1967.
He is a first generation student of Great
Grandmaster Wally Jay from the time of his
early development of Small Circle Jujitsu; and
a second generation student in the lineage of
Bruce Lee, studying with Felix Macias, the late
Newt Kamakani, and Sijo Leo Fong. Professor
Hundon is also a certified Phase One
Instructor in Jeet Kune Do Concepts, under
Sigung Paul Vunak, founder of Progressive
Fighting Systems.

Professor Hundon was awarded the title of
'Most Distinguished Master' in the U.S. Martial
Arts Hall of Fame in 2008.

Professor Hundon holds 7th Degree Black
Belts in Small Circle Jujitsu and
Kyohuejitsumae; a second degree Black Belt
in Sugar Ryu Jujitsu; and Black Belts in
Chinese Kenpo and Kodokan Jujitsu.
Professor Hundon has also studied Capoeira
Angola extensively, as well as Shorinji Kenpo.
Boxing is one of Professor Hundon's passions,
having grown up training out of the legendary
Newman's Gym in San Francisco.

Professor Hundon attained his first Black Belt
in Chinese Kenpo under Master Ken Lucio. He
went on to study with Sifu Felix Macias, Sr.
and the late Sifu Newt Kamakani, both original
students of Bruce Lee and Jimmy Lee from
the Oakland Dojo.

In 1978 Professor Hundon began his training
with Great Grandmaster Wally Jay, the
founder of Small Circle Jujitsu.  Professor
Hundon traveled extensively with Great
Grandmaster Jay demonstrating, competing
and assisting him with seminars. Professor
Hundon was the first person to compete
nationally and internationally using the art of
Small Circle Jujitsu as part of his arsenal.
During this time, Professor Hundon won many
competitions and garnered numerous awards
which helped to establish Small Circle Jujitsu
as the widely recognized martial art it is today.
Professor Hundon received a book credit for
"Dynamic Jujitsu," Great Grandmaster Jay's
first book published about Small Circle Jujitsu.
Professor Hundon taught at Great
Grandmaster Jay's home dojo for many years
before it closed in 2003.

In the mid 1980's Professor Hundon moved to
New York, studying with some of the greatest
martial artists of our time: Professor Robert
Crosson; Soke Lil’ John Davis; Soke James
McQueen, founder of Kyohuejitsumae; and the
late great Doctor Moses Powell.

Professor Hundon has also studied with the
world renowned Professor Don Jacob, founder
of Purple Dragon International.

Professor Hundon has continued to expand
his martial arts expertise, focusing on the
Filipino martial arts. Some of his past teachers
include Grandmaster Remy Presas, founder of
Modern Arnis; Master Khalid Khan; and
Pangulong Guro Sultan "Shaykh" Uddin,
founder of the International Eskrima Serrada
Association (IESA). In addition to being a
certified Phase One Instructor in Jeet Kune Do
Concepts, Professor Hundon is also an Edged
Weapons Instructor under Sigung Paul Vunak,
a top student of Guro Dan Inosanto.

An accomplished teacher, Professor Hundon
divides his time between teaching his UMAA
students; giving Defensive Tactics workshops
for law enforcement, security officers and
other high-risk professionals; instructing
children in self defense at the Whitney Young
Child Development Center in the Bayview-
Hunters Point district of San Francisco; and
coaching girls' and boys' middle school
basketball.
